Summary[edit]
DescriptionSteam locomotive B10 with train at Red Sheds terminus.jpg |
Steam locomotive B10 with train at Red Sheds terminus. B10 was built in 1924 for Messrs Armstrong, Whitworth of Tauranga for the construction of the section of the North Island Main Trunk railway to Waihi. It was sold first in 1930 to Milburn Lime and Cement, then in 1967 to the Pukeuri Freezing Works for $1,500, until it ended up with Oamaru Steam and Rail when it swapped DSA 218 and 234 (ex-NZR) for B10 in 1989. Until April 2007, B10 was Oamaru Steam and Rail's main locomotive, before it was overhauled over several years and returned to service in May 2013. In this photo, B10 is pulling: 1) NB1716, 2) A1514 - built 1923 at NZR's Hillside Railway workshops, 3) F668 - 1941 Guard's Van, built at NZR's Addington Railway workshops. |
