Summary[edit]
DescriptionStatue of Jeanne d'Arc in Paris, Place des Pyramides - France - 4 July 2014.jpg |
Jeanne d'Arc is an equestrian sculpture of Joan of Arc by Emmanuel Frémiet inaugurated in 1874. Joan of Arc (1412–1431), said she received visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. Several swift victories by her led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims. She was captured, convicted and then burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, she was 19 years of age. Twenty-five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr. |
