Three periods a week.This course includes General Methods and School Management.The former consists of a study of the forms of presentation whichsuit the mental processes involved in learning. The nature andmeans of instruction, deduction, induction, analysis, synthesis,the nature and use of hypotheses and theories, requisites ofscientific classification, principles of scientific investigation, theuses of analogy, generalization and demonstration are some of thetopics studied. It is the purpose of the latter to disucss the various problemsconfronting the teacher in the organization and conduct of aschool. It will be made as practical as possible for those whowill teach in the rural schools as well as for those who will enterthe graded schools. Section A—History of Education. This book covers the field of the historyof education very completely, and insures a fair understandingof the principal factors in the development of education. Theinfluence of the most significant historical movements and thewritings of the great educational reformers will constitute thechief subjects of study. The aim is always to find what ofpermanent value each age has to transmit to us. Section B—Psychology (Advanced). Three periods a week.This course is intended to be an extension and elaboration of theelementary course, and the study of several additional topics.Such subjects as habit, association, memory, imagination, appre-ception, attention, sensory and motor training, the emotions,instinct and will, receive careful attention.
