Description
English: View of Petrie Bight, Brisbane, ca. 1888 This was the commercial hub of Brisbane in the 1880's. New wharves, both commercial and municipal, were being built, along with larger warehouses along Eagle Street. Of interest are the Customs House under construction, whilst the Gas Works [dating from 1865] are in the course of demolition. [Description supplied with photograph] Original photographer: A. Lomer & Co. Several sailing ships are visible at the wharves.
