    English: The painting depicts the Battle of the Ice, a battle between the Republic of Novgorod and the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights on 5 April 1242. The central figure of the painting is the leader of Russian troops Prince Alexander Nevsky (on the white horse, in the flying red cloak). The name of the painting is the proverbial phrase attributed to Alexander Nevsky
    Русский: Полотно изображает Ледовое побоище, сражение между русскими войсками и войсками Тевтонского ордена, произошедшее 5 апреля 1242 года. Центральная фигура полотна – глава русского войска князь Александр Невский (на белой лошади, в развевающемся красном плаще). В качестве названия картины использована приписываемая Александру Невскому крылатая фраза.
