Description
Deutsch: Verwaltung im mittelalterlichen Wels:
  • Die Bürgerschaft wählte die politische Spitze, den Stadtrat. Der Stadtrat wiederum bestimmte den Stadtrichter, der vom Stadtherrn, das heißt dem Landesfürsten, bestätigt werden musste.
  • Das Stadtgericht kontrollierte die Einhebung von Strafgeldern und Abgaben auf Bürgerhäuser und -grundstücke. Der Stadtrichter konnte die Todesstrafe verhängen.
  • Der Stadtschreiber verwaltete die städtischen Ämter und die Einnahmen aus der Maut sowie die Ausgaben der Stadt. Der Stadtrat ernannte den Stadtschreiber.
  • Das Stadtkammeramt musste die städtischen Bauwerke wie die Befestigungsanlagen und das Rathaus instandhalten sowie Jahrmärkte ausrichten und die städtischen Bediensteten bezahlen.
  • Der Bruckmeister war für den Bereich der Traunbrücke und ihre Reparatur verantwortlich.
  • Der Lichtmeister war bei der Stadtpfarrkirche angestellt und überwachte die Tätigkeit des Pfarrers und das Vermögen der Kirche.
  • Der Spitalmeister war der oberste Angestellte des Welser Spitals.
  • Der Siechenmeister betreute das finanzielle Vermögen des Siechenhauses, das eine Art Quarantäne-Einrichtung für Menschen mit ansteckenden Krankheiten war.
  • Der Mautner erhob die Maut, wenn bestimmte Grenzen mit Waren überschritten wurden.
  • Der Ungelter erhob das „Ungeld“, also die Getränkesteuer, auf Bier, Most und Wein, die nur Bürger ausschenken durften, später auch eingeschränkt von den Zünften.
