Monument

Arms of Edward Purefoy (d.1558) of Shalston, Buckinghamshire, who married Anne Fettiplace (d.1568), a daughter of Richard Fettiplace of Besselsleigh, Berkshire (now in Oxfordshire) (Basilsleigh/Besils-Leigh, etc., modern: Besselsleigh). Edward Purefoy was the son and heir of Nicholas Purefoy (d.1547) of Shirston, Warwickshire (senior branch of Purefoy) (by his wife Alice Denton) who sold the manor of Shirford. See "FENNY DRAYTON AND THE PUREFEY MONUMENTS", BY GEORGE F(RANCIS) FARNHAM, AND ALBERT HERBERT, published in Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, Vol.14, 1925, pp.84-112[1][2] Quarterly of 4:

  • 1: Sable, six armed hands in pairs embracing 2 and 1 argent (Purefoy ancient)
  • 2: Azure, three stirrups or (Purefoy modern)

  • 4: Quarterly gules and or
