DescriptionSt George Tombland - C17 monument - geograph.org.uk - 1845047.jpg | St George's Church, Tombland, in the City of Norwich, Norfolk, mural monument at west end of nave to John Symonds (d.1609) of Queen Street, a Merchant Taylor and a Freeman of the City of Norwich who served as Sheriff of Norwich in 1603 (www.norwich-heritage.co.uk [1]). Dressed in red robes of an Alderman, kneeling at a prayer desk and opposite his wife Olive. Inscribed: Here underneath lieth interred ye body of John Symonds, Gent, and Olive his wife, who has given by his last tastament, unto ye pore of this parish two shillings a week to continue for ever. An(no) Dom(ini) 1609. Arms: Sable, two boar's heads couped argent (Symonds) impaling Gules, two sheep passant argent (for his wife Olive, of unrecorded family) (Source: Farrer, Edmund, Church Heraldry of Norfolk, Vol 3 (1893) Lynn, Norwich, Thetford, Yarmouth, p.54[2]).
