Text on back of card:

BATTLE ABBEY ON THE PIKE.

The reproduction of Battle Abbey, the old convent near Hastings, England, where the Normans defeated the Saxons, was used as a museum of American wars. Two great cycloramas were exhibited within; visible from a platform erected between the two. One depicted the last day of the great battle of Gettysburg, July 3 1863, and the other the second battle of Manassas. These cycloramas were a novelty to many visitors of the fair. Near the observer there was real earth and grass, strewn with abandoned rifles, swords, caps, and with dead soldiers. Where the real scene and the painted representation merged into each other was not noticeable. The whole conveyed a very realistic impression of the horrors of war enacted in a blessed country. An able lecturer explained the action and called attention to details. Smaller war scenes and an extensive collection of war relics filled the remainder of the building.
