t it, nevertheless, and are soon sleepingsoundly. An hour or two later, Mark awakens,and, lifting himself on his elbow, looks out of theforward windows. The moon is shining in, andsuch a moon ! Talk about dinner-plates or cart-wheels ! The great bright shield of this moonfills a vast circle of the heavens. It is twenty timesbigger than any moon he ever saw. He takes aquarter-dollar from his pocket and holds it beforehis eye at a distance of about two inches, and thecoin does not hide the planet; a bright silver rimis visible all around it. The dark spots on themoons surface are now clearly seen to be deepvalleys and gorges; the mountain ranges come outin clear relief. Mark is at first inclined to wake hiscousins ; but he concludes to wait an hour or twotill the view shall be a little finer; and before heknows it, he is sound asleep again.
