Il corpo dello strumento ha la forma di prisma rettangolare a base triangolare isoscele. Al centro del lato maggiore è l'aggancio dello snodo cilindrico del manico. Gli spigoli della base triangolare sono tutti arrotondati. In corrispondenza di essi, sulla superficie inferiore del prisma, sono tre viti. La superficie laterale del prisma reca quattro aperture quadrate, due delle quali lungo il lato maggiore, disposte simmetricamente rispetto al manico. Le altre due fessure sono aperta sulle facce dei lati uguali grossomodo in corrispondenza dei vertici. All'interno è un prisma di forma irregolare ottenuto privando un prisma triangolare rettangolo isoscele dell'angolo retto con un segmento obliquo ai cateti di 22°30'. Le finestre aperte sulla superficie laterale del corpo dello strumento inquadrano punti in cui la rifrazione del prisma ottiene immagini a 45°, 90° e 180°. funzione: Allineamenti ortogonali e a 45° gradi e multipli modalità d'uso: Serve a realizzare allineamenti lungo le direzioni a 45°, a 90° e a 180° della direzione di collimazione utilizzando come oculare la finestra recante l'indicazione della direzione voluta. Lo strumento va tenuto approssimativamente orizzontale. |

Osservazioni: La datazione qui ipotizzata è basata sull'ingresso nel più antico inventario del "Buonarroti" (1964). Per comparazione con altri strumenti e sulla scorta della tecnologia di montaggio dello strumento, dei caratteri e della soluzione grafica adottata nel marchio, lo strumento potrebbe risalire anche al decennio precedente, come affermato in bibliografia.
