Summary[edit]
DescriptionSprott attractors animated.gif |
English: In 1994, Julien C.Sprott published an article[1] in which he provided a list of the simplest chaotic attractors that arise in dynamical systems with continuous time. The list contains 19 three-dimensional systems of differential equations (chaos can arise in systems of order at least three, if time is considered continuous), they are the simplest because their right-hand sides contain a sum of no more than six terms-combinations of dynamic variables - either five terms, two of which have quadratic nonlinearity (the others are linear), or six terms, one of which is quadratically nonlinear (the well-known Lorenz and Rössler attractors each have seven terms on the right side). These attractors were found by parameter selection and numerical solution the corresponding systems of differential equations.
The animation shows two-dimensional images of the phase trajectories of all 19 Sprott's attractors (cases A-S), as well as a three-dimensional image of one of these attractors (try to guess which one[2]). Own proprietary software[3] was used for plotting
