Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpringhead Pumping Station - Cornish beam engine (geograph 6799565).jpg |
English: Springhead Pumping Station, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Cornish beam engine. For a period this was Yorkshire Water's company museum but it is now closed and had got into a bad condition with a big timber beam having fallen from the roof. It has since had work done to the building but the engine is a shadow of its former self. This is a Bells, Lightfoot 90" Cornish beam pumping engine that could pump to a variable head and has cataracts to pause the indoor and outdoor strokes. This is an 'up-country' engine with the parallel motion links outside the riveted box girder style beam. The piston rod is fastened to the parallel motion with a big nut rather than the internal C-shaped cotters adapted by the Cornish builders. This is a more recent view - TA0429 : Inside Springhead Pumping Station. |
