Spotted deer

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The beautiful Chital is the most abundant deer in India.

Generally seen in herds of 10-30, the Chital inhabit forests, and grazing areas with plentiful water supply. Versatile in their feeding habits they consume grass, leaf, fodder and fruits.

They may often be seen moving in the company of feeding langurs, eating leaves or picking up half-eaten fruits the latter drop from the trees. This association also affords protection against danger, as langurs on spotting a predator from atop trees, raise an alarm, which serves to warn other animals of approaching danger.
