Summary[edit]
DescriptionSpecular v Diffuse reflection.png |
English: When the reflection surface is smooth, the angle of reflection is the same as the angle of incidence. This is termed "specular reflection".
When the surface is rough or is in fact a collection of small particles, the incident beam is reflected off the fine particles and protrusions in multiple directions. This is called "diffuse reflection". Note that often a small portion of the incident beam is reflected specularly even when the surface is rough.
