Notes
[edit]The first photo of The East West Transcendental Spark n Cinder left to right: Jimmy Fay vocalist, drummer, he was an original member of Supa Nova from Jersey City and we continued playing together for another 40 years. Next is Sam Yarbough vocalist, trombone. Sam was a later member of Supa Nova, who became our bassist when Gary Decina left Supa Nova. Sam was from Gridley, California. In front next is John Lapado, vocal, guitar, pedal steel, harmonica. He was from the Bay Area, Santa Clara (I think). Behind him is Billy Baxmeyer, vocals, bassist. Billy was from Jersey City and also played for a spell in Supa Nova with Zack (Michael Borland). Next to him is Bob Wallen guitar, vocal and our de facto band manager. Bob was a Bay Area transplant to Chico. Joe Hammons vocals, guitar is beside him. Joe was from Southern California. Then me, Jerry Morano vocals, percussionist from Jersey City, former member of Supa Nova. Behind me, Michael Cannon vocalist, keyboards from the Bay Area. This band was a combination of former members of Supa Nova (Jersey City’s Finest) and another local band at the time The Butte Creek Family Jamboree. When we split with SN Billy, Jimmy and I became the rhythm section for Butte Creek. We then all decided to become a new band (The East-West) with some spiritual leanings (Transcendental) to big to sustain (Spark n Cinder). The continued for 40 years (1976-2013) with about 40 different members through that time. We played mostly original music written by various members but most by Jimmy Fay. Recorded numerous lps, cds, playing around the western US, opening for many stars like Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, Steel Pulse etc. our sound incorporated reggae, funk, country and rock n roll.
