Summary[edit]

Description
English: Schematic example for trajectories of a space probe, from Earth to Saturn.

Red line: the shortest, purely theoretic way. This would require a continuous burning, and an unbelievable amount of fuel.
Blue line: a nearly elliptic inertial trajectory, targeted to meet at the aphelic section. Needs a high energy acceleration at the beginning, requires very much fuel.

Green line: a fuel saving trajectory. Contains two programmed slingshot maneuvres, by the Venus and Jupiter, gaining speed from their motion. This method works well, already used in several missions.
