| Description |
English: South portal of Blackheath tunnel It is difficult to get a clear view of this portal. This view from the access road to the car pound is the nearest, and even then it can only be seen in winter when the trees are not in leaf.
The tunnel, just short of 1.5km long, was part of the original line from London to Dartford, bypassing Greenwich. The direct route through a tunnel under Greenwich Park came later. A small number of limited-stop trains still use this route between Charlton and Blackheath, and it is a useful diversionary route. |
