The Nile River in Africa is often regarded as the longest river on Earth, 6695 km long. The Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The former is the longer of the two.

Description

English: The Nile River in Africa is often regarded as the longest river on Earth, 6695 km long. The Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The former is the longer of the two. The White Nile rises in the Great Lakes region of central Africa, with the most distant source in the Nyungwe Forest near Lake Kivu, in southern Rwanda at 2.32 degrees South latitude, 29.33 degrees East longitude (center of the image). It flows north through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda, and southern Sudan. This ASTER image of the White Nile source was acquired June 16, 2006, and covers an area of 39.1 x 40.5 km.
