Summary[edit]
DescriptionSolar telescope in use.jpg |
English: "It has horns!" That was the surprised comment from one student, after his first view through a solar telescope. The sun had solar prominences (somewhat resembling giant flares) on that day, at approximately 10:00 and 1:00 positions.
This was one of more than 30 hands-on activities offered at "Discovery Day," sponsored by Big Brother Mouse in Laos. Non-rote, interactive educational opportunities are rare in Laos. The Discovery Days include more than 30 activities such as bridge-building, anatomy models, fossil and mineral collections, optical illusions, microscopes, and number games. |

The Coronado "PST Personal Telescope" was donated to the project by the United States Embassy. The image was improved by adding a 12.5mm Super Planetary Long Eye Relief Eyepieces, from William Optics. The alt-azimuth tripod, which makes it much easier to track the sun, is Skywatcher AZ3 Mount.
