English: NOAA’s latest GOES-R Series satellites don’t just look down at Earth, they also provide information about the Sun from 93 million miles away. An instrument onboard GOES called the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) provides space weather scientists with images of the Sun in several different spectral bands. These high-resolution images reveal details about the structure of the Sun’s active regions, solar prominences. coronal holes and solar flares. This six-panel SUVI image from GOES-16 shows a large coronal hole on the Sun on March 27, 2017, in different ultraviolet wavelengths. Besides the critical solar information it provides scientists, it also gives us a captivatingly colorful way to view our nearest star.
