Description 8 minutes before totality a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22%c2%b0_halo" rel="noreferrer nofollow">22° halo</a> formed around the sun and moon. This is caused by refraction of light by hexagonal ice crystals in the high clouds. Note that the sun was already more than 90% covered by the moon, though you could not tell from this photo as it was taken with a cell phone without filters.
