Description
English: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Record number: 23040501 Artist: Item caption, front: Sneewittchen u. die 7 Zwerge = Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Item caption/descriptive text, back: Der siebente Zwerg aber als er in sein Bett sah, erblickte Sneewitt'chen, das lag darin und schlief. Nun riefer die andern herbei. = But the seventh dwarf, when he looked at his bed, saw Snow White lying in it, fast asleep. He called the other to come see. “Bitte gegen das Licht zu halten.” = “Please hold up the light.” Uniform title: Grimm: Schneewittchen (“Snow White”) Dimensions: 140 x 91 mm. Date: 1904 or earlier Nationality: German Publisher: Series: No. 477 Medium: color lithograph Interpretive notes: This interesting card features a scene depicting the dwarfs' discovery of Snow White sleeping in one of their beds, wrapped around the space reserved for the sender's message. At the top of the stairs, one dwarf holds aloft a candle and summons the others to come and see who he has discovered in his bed. The bottom register foreshadows Snow White's enchanted, deathlike sleep, showing one of the dwarfs keeping watch over her glass coffin. The word "Meteor" at the top of this card, in close proximity to the dwarf holding aloft his light and the text "Please hold up the light," suggests that it may have been issued to advertise a manufacturer of candles. Subject headings: Dwarfs
