Español: El Skateboarding apareció más o menos entre los años de 1940 y 1950. La mayoría de skateboards fueron solo monopatines, a los cuales le era removida la barra de manos. La primera skateboard comercial apareció en 1960, cuando Makaha skateboards empezó un gran negocio.
Por los 1970, el diseño del skateboard había avanzado, y los modelos producidos eran mucho más seguros que los de los años anteriores. Ya que las compañías que hacían ruedas, trucks, y otras partes las diseñaban especialmente para hacer trucos, así que eran más fuertes. Por muchos años la construcción de skateboards vario de diferentes materiales, como plástico, fibra de vidrio, metal, y madera, pero a finales de 1970 la madera era el material optimo. Las tablas construidas por 7 capas de madera tendían a ser más livianas y fuertes que otros materiales. Las rampas se usaron primero en 1975 el la bahía de Melbourne, Florida. Florida fue el sitio de muchos inicios de otros deportes, incluyendo el primer skate park: Skateboard City en Puerto Orange, Florida, el cual abrió en 1976. El skateboard ganó popularidad en los 80's y 90's, y vio una mayor apreciación por el deporte, especialmente como un deporte competitivo. La atención dada al skateboarding en deportes de competición, como los X Games los cuales se realizan por temporada de invierno-verano y que arrastran una gran masa de fanáticos del deporte extremo.Desde el origen hasta la fecha no solo ha avanzado el diseño del skate, sino también el de los trucos, llegando a piruetas que se puedan realizar desde grab, lip, flip, grind, manual, complejidades de ollies y combinaciones de todas estas formas de patinar. |
