English: Bunia, Ituri, DRC: Sixty MONUSCO’s peacekeepers from Morocco left Bunia for Goma on August 5, 2020, to be repatriated to Morocco, after spending 6 additional months in Ituri following flights’ suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of them declared: “we are going back home with a mixed feeling of joy and sadness: joy, because after one year’s service, we are going to meet with our families again; furthermore, we have received UN medals for the services rendered for the advancement of Peace, on top of the international experience acquired and the friendship ties made here which we would like to maintain. But it is also sad because we are leaving behind an extraordinary population, and a country in which innocent people continue to be subjected to the law of the armed groups”. Photo MONUSCO / Force
Photo MONUSCO/Force |
