e larga, para evitarlos inconvenientes ique pudieran resultar de semejante hinchazón;y así jamás tendrá menos de dos pulgadas de largo, y la prime-ra vez que se introduzca no ha de quedar descubierta por los ca-bezales mas porción de su extremidad que la necesaria para queentre fácilmente en la trachea. Si sobreviene alguna hinchazón secorta uno, dos ó mas cabezales para que la cánula penetre á lamisma profundidad ; y por el contrario en el caso en que laspartes se hallen algo hinchadas al tiempo de la operación, comola porción del tubo introducida en la trachea se encuentra dema-siado larga quando cede la hinchazón , se evita con facilidad elinconveniente que de aquí pudiera seguirse introduciendo algunospaños entre dos de los cabezales. Quan-do solo se emplea esta , como se llena de mucosidades es preci-so quitarla con freqüencia para limpiarla, y en tanto se interrum-pe la respiración; mas quando es doble con facilidad se quita, selimpia, y se vuelve á poner la interior, y al mismo tiempo seprecave todo accidente que pudiera resultar con la que se dexa etila abertura; y así quando la cánula exterior del tubo se halla bienfixada, al punto se introduce la otra , si anteriormente se ha pro-curado adaptar á ella ; luego se cubre la abertura de la cánulacon un pedazo de crespón ó de musulina fina, para impedir laintroducción del polvo, &c. y está concluida la operación.
