PCC tram no 52 in Sint-Veerleplein, operated by de Lijn which since 1991 has operated the Ghent system, and indeed all of the public transport in Flanders, when Antwerp, Ghent and the national transport company NMVB joined together. More pictures of Ghent PCC trams here The system operates at 600V DC on a gauge of 1000mm, with 30km of track without any turning circles,hence use of double-ended cars. There are 4 routes, numbered eccentrically 1,4, 21 and 22. At the time of the photo, the 4 was numbered 40. |
