Summary
[edit]DescriptionSimulating a Wimshurst machine with aligned charge collectors.jpg |
English: Simulating a Wimshurst machine with aligned charge collectors and with them dislocated in the direction of the adjacent neutralizers. Machine with 16 sectors per disk, neutralizers at 45 degrees and dislocation of 22.5 degrees. Initial voltages in the Leyden jars of +/-1 V, 1 second per turn. The plots show the voltages in the Leyden jars and in one segment for both cases, during the charging of the machine. It can be seen that the machine with dislocated sectors (red, blue, and white curves) produces about two times more current than the other (charges the 100 pF jars two times faster), confirming Shaffers' theory.
