Title
Silver Toilet set
Description
English: Cast silver toilet set which consists of four tools, these are pieced at the top and are hinged with a single silver rivet that when closed form a cylindrical implement, the hinge has a loop at the top, but this is now truncated. The four tools are an ear scoop, a curved nail cleaner/toothpick, a point/spatula and an angled plate that when the set is closed forms a sheath which protects the other implements. The ear scoop and the angled tool form the outside edge, both are semi-circular in cross-section and are decorated with a moulded panel at the attachment end consisting of a double zigzag line with two sets of double bands that have beaded centres, towards the base is a moulded triple band. The nail cleaner and point are flat in cross-section and form the central portion of the cylinder, the moulded decoration present on the outside implements continues on the sides of these tools forming a complete unbroken band.

This set would have been worn as a fashion accessory, a style that became particularly popular in the late 16th century with both men and women. Date 16th to 17th century date (AD 1550-1700). Other toilet articles have been recorded on the database, see DENO-246A38, NCL-B5BCC7 and DUR-93A484. However, these are all singular items, this is the first complete set to have been recorded on this database.
