Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sign for the King Arthur Arthur was probably a British leader during the Anglo-Saxon invasion. A vast body of legendary tales were associated with him before the 11th century and transmitted throughout Europe. The main facts of the legend are that Arthur showed his royal blood by drawing a sword from a stone. His own sword, Excalibur, was given to him by the Lady of the Lake. Arthur's court centred on the Round Table at Camelot, where gathered such knights as Sir Lancelot, who loved Arthur's queen, Guinevere, (Elaine of Astolat was in love with Lancelot), Sir Galahad, leader of the quest for the Holy Grail, Sir Gawain, the ideal knight, Sir Kay, Arthur's churlish foster brother. Also there was Merlin, the court magician, Morgan le Fay, Arthur's sister, and Sir Parsifal. Some of these individual figures are commemorated in pub names.
