| Description |
English: Shropshire Union Canal. This view looks north from the tall Giffard's Cross Bridge. This section of canal was constructed by Thomas Telford in 1835. The uncompromising approach to engineering resulted in very deep cuttings and substantially reduced the number of locks. Goods could travel from Birmingham to Liverpool in about 45 hours. |
