Summary
[edit]DescriptionSheep Heid Inn, Duddingston - geograph.org.uk - 1340331.jpg |
English: Sheep Heid Inn, Duddingston Known in popular parlance as 'the Sheep's Heid', this public house claims to be the oldest known pub in Scotland. Tradition has it that it was established around the mid-14th century. The name comes from the story that James VI, who played skittles in the yard, gifted a snuff box to the landlord which was embellished with a ram's head. The present-day pub still has a fully functioning skittle alley which has changed little since it was built in 1882. It is a popular watering-hole for walkers roaming through the Queen's Park. |
