Title
Shakespeare tile 26, The Tempest
Description
This scene corresponds to an illustration in The Works of Shakespeare, published by George Routledge (CPL call number 823 754) with the caption: My brave spirit. This is one of a set of 27 story tile commisioned by the Library for display around the fireplaces in branch library childrens rooms where story telling programs were held. The use of the story tile, coordinated with story telling cycles, was part of a program to enhance physical spaces to nurture children's experiences with book and stories. The themes were selected by the Library, and the artists adapted designs from book illustrations. The Malin sisters, noted Cleveland china painters with a studio in the Arcade, produced four sets of story tile for the Library (also myths, fairy tales, and the Story of King Arthur).
