ollege, Lexington, Kentucky, a churchschool for girls. In 1896 he was offered the presi-dency of Christian Orphan School of Fulton, Mis-souri. When he took charge of this school it wasvery much in debt and though he knew nothing ofthis when accepting it, having put his hand to theplow he did not turn back. He has had charge ofthe school for fourteen years and in this time thepatronage and faculty have been doubled, and thecourse extended. Several modern buildings havebeen erected, notably a fine auditorium and new dor-mitory, while the grounds have been enlarged andbeautified. Through his efficient management andthe generosity of Dr. W. S. Woods, of Kansas City,whose name it now bears, a large number of girls areeducated gratuitously each year. Daughters of mis-sionaries are educated here, and several WilliamWoods College alumnae are now in foreign fields asmissionaries. Count Zinzen-dorf is said to have remarked that he feared it wasthe entering wedge, that would end in doing awaywith Moravian exclusiveness. During the troubled times of the Indian wars, anumber of people had refugeed to Bethabara, aroundthe mill, where palisades had been put up, as a pro-tection. One of our immediate ancestors fled froman Indian outbreak on New River with an infant oftwo days in arms, and, with her friends, arrived inBethabara on foot. These refugees were not favorably inclined towardsthe common house-keeping, or choir arrangements atBethabara, its communism. It was with the idea ofaccommodating them, that Bishop Spangenberg andseveral others selected the locality of Bethania, wherefriends of the church, as well as members, could beallowed t
