Summary[edit]
DescriptionSelf-portait as a Genius.jpg |
English: This is a photo I took of my sister, who was at the top of her class when it was taken. I aimed to show the complex array of emotions and the depth to her character, indicated by the title, with emphasis only on Genius, not portrait/ self(lessness). It shows how the act of placing people on academic (or other kinds of) pedestals can actually be dehumanising towards them. The photo itself is reflecting that, as it is an intimate and quite disturbingly close portrait - it is difficult to tell if she is grimacing from pain or happiness; showing the duality of man - or rather, how humans are almost completely unable to express themselves succinctly or clearly.
The title reminds us that it's not a portrait (as the grammatically incorrect lack of capitals draw attention away from the fact that it is a portrait of a person), and my sister no longer is my sister, merely a Genius. |
