Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeeburg Kalktufflager Ermstal Schwaebische-Alb.jpg |
]]).English: „Seeburg“ (Bad Urach) in the valley of the headwaters oft he Erms, heavily karstified Swabian Alb. The stream’s strong karst spring is behind the valley in ca. 1000 m. The small town rests on a travertine sediment of no less than 30 m. A former quarry wall stopped just before the “reverends house”, 12 m above the recent floor of the Fischbach (see photo: Image:Kalktuffbarre Seeburg Ermstal Schwaebische-Alb.jpg).Several abandoned quarries are right between the towns houses, most of them refilled or hidden. Geologists, analysing the rocks of a drilling hole, dated the travertine sediments to be of the Atlantic period (8000 B.C.). The travertine used to bloc the whole valley, impounding stream “Fischbach” to become the lake “Bodenloser See”. “Heinrich Schickhardt”, an important builder at the court of the “Württembergers” planed and realised a water tunnel through the travertine 1617-1620 (!), this is still working and restored in 1998. |
