Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Document dated 3 July 1304 in which Albrecht, King of Germany, pledges "our city of Schweinfurt" along with the castle and all other properties to Andreas von Gundelfingen, Bishop of Wurzburg, as collateral for a loan of 2000 pounds. The bishop may keep the city with all related rights and income until the loan is repaid by the king or his heirs. The document also details what will happen in case Hermann von Brandenburg, the son of the Margrave to whom the city had been pledged in the past, decides to pursue any claim through legal means.
Schweinfurt maintained its status as a Free Imperial City until 1802 but other imperial cities were not so fortunate and lost their freedom permanently due to unredeemed pledges.
