Italiano: Due litri di acqua da analizzare sono ridotti a 50 mL, ed inseriti in un pallone da 150 mL. Per raffreddamento della soluzione posta ad ebollizione si crea un debole vuoto nel sistema, ed aprendo B si inseriscono tramite A 20 mL di cloruro ferroso saturo e poi altrettanti di acido cloridrico HCl. Per ulteriore riscaldamento a sistema chiuso si sviluppano vapori di HCl e ossido nitrico NO, che vengono raccolti in una campana graduata invertita riempita di NaOH al 10%. Per misurazione del volume di NO raccolto è possibile ricavare la quantità di azoto nitrico nell'acqua di partenza.
English: Two liters of drinking water are boiled down to 50 mL, and inserted into a 150 mL round-bottom flask. The system is boiled down to a few mL and the clips closed, so that by cooling there is a mild vacuum inside. The clip B is opened, and tube A immersed in a beaker with 20 mL of saturated ferrous chloride, which is aspirated inside, followed by HCl. The clips are closed and by further heating, a pressure of NO gas and HCl vapours are released and collected into a graduated inverted tube in 10% NaOH. By measurement of the volume of NO it is possible to determine the original amount of nitrates in the sample. |
