Apparatus according to Schlössing for the determination of ammoniacal nitrogen in drinking water

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A round-bottom flask with 0.5-1 L of drinking water to be analyzed is boiled with magnesium oxide MgO. The ammoniacal vapours are collected and condensed in a beaker with a known amount of acid (usually oxalic acid). By titration of the excess acid, the amount of ammoniacal nitrogen can be calculated.
