Memorial mast of Schule am Meer, Juist, Prussia

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pupils and teachers of progressive boarding school Schule am Meer (School by the Sea) present a carved mast for the Swiss teacher Herbert Reichel (* July 8, 1905 in Lausanne, Switzerland; † July 24, 1929 in Juist, Prussia, German Reich), who taught French, but drowned in the North Sea. The elaborately decorated mast was erected in the dune chain north of the school's compound, but is said to have been burned by islanders in the post-war period, to whom the memorial for a deceased from S.a.M. meant nothing, as they had never considered the boarding school to be local anyway. Seated from the left students Heinz-Günther Knolle (* 16 April, 1912 in Löhne, Westphalia; † 26 October, 1999 in Bielefeld) and Ulrich Sild (* 4 July, 1911 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary; † 9 May, 1937 at Hochschwab [mountain] in Styria, Austria). Standing as 5th from the left: headmaster Martin Luserke (1880–1968). The pictured students of different ages and sex likely belonged to the comradeship led by Reichel.
Juli 1905 in Lausanne, Schweiz; † 24. Juli 1929 in Juist). April 1912 in Gohfeld, jetzt: Löhne; † 26. Oktober 1999 in Bielefeld) und Ulrich Sild (* 4. Juli 1911 in Wien, Österreich-Ungarn; † 9.
