The village sign for Sanderstead, part of the London Borough of Croydon. It stands at grid reference TQ340613 outside Rectory Court on the Sanderstead roundabout between Limpsfield Road and Rectory Park (more images).
The carving at the top of the sign is of All Saints Church, about 100 metres away, as it is seen from the sign (another view of the church).
The "EIIR 1953" in the middle commemorates the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and is presumably the date of erection of the sign.
The plate at the bottom read: The roses on the roundabout commemorate the Silver Jubilee of H.M. Queen Elizabeth 1952 - 1977 and the golden jubilee of the Sanderstead Resiidents Association 1926 -1976.
