The Twin Peaks Pink Triangle // Remembering the Hatred of the Past // PINK TRIANGLE // Please HELP – PINK TRIANGLE INSTALLATION – bring a hammer // Set-up: Sat, May 29, noon – 3 pm // Take-down: Thurs, July 1, noon – 3pm // …
Information board (2):
The History of the Pink Triangle // The pink triangle was used by the Nazis in concentration camps to identify and shame homosexuals. This symbol, which was used as in an attempt to label and shame has been embraced by the gay community as a symbol of pride. // However, in the 1930’s & 40’s there was nothing to celebrate concerning the pink triangle. Gays were forced to wear the pink triangle on their pockets in the concentration camps to identify them as homosexual to set them apart from other prisoners. // Triangles of various colors were used to identify each category of “undesirable”: yellow for Jews, brown of Gypsies, red for political prisoners, green for criminals, black for anti-socials, purple for Jehova’s Witnesses, blue for immigrants and pink for homosexuals. // … // There are currently approximately 77 nations in which homosexuality is criminalized. At some point a few forced minorities to wear identifying badges on their clothing, just as the NAZI’s required their “undesirables” to wear identifying logos so long ago. Now Chechnys is arresting gays and establishing concentration camps. History repeats. // That is why Twin Peaks display is so important. We must remind people of the hatred and prejudice of the past to help educate others and prevent it from happening again. What happened in the Holocaust must not be forgotten und must not be repeated.
Information board (3):
A system of badges was created to IDENTIFY various… // “UNDESIRABLES” // Triangles of various colors were used to identify whole groups of people. // YELLOW for Jews, BROWN of Gypsies, RED for political prisoners, GREEN for criminals, BLACK for asocials, BLUE for immigrants, PURPLE for Jehova’s Witnesses, and PINK for homosexuals // Kennzeichen für Schutzhäftlinge in den Konzentrations Lagern // Politisch, Berufsverbrecher, Emigrant, Bibelforscher, Homosexuell, Arbeitsscheu/Reich, Arbeitsscheu // Grundfarben, Abzeichen für Rückfällige, Strafkomp, Juden // Jüdischer Rasseschänder, Flucht verdächtiger, 1a Häftling // Beispiel: Politisch, Jude, Rückfällig, Strafkomp // Sonder Aktion Wehrmacht // Pole, Tscheche
