Description |
English: A samurai was member of Japan’s feudal class of warriors. Especially during the Edo period, the Japanese society was divided into sharply defined classes: farmers, traders and samurai. The latter class took over all power. Only samurai were allowed to carry weapons, usually the characteristic long and short swords. Not every samurai was actually a warrior, some were officials and their swords were more a symbol than an actual weapon. |
