Summary[edit]

Description A view of the inner chamber of the tomb of Safdarjung, New Delhi. Built by Shuja-ud-duala, the Nawab of Awadh (Oudh) in memory of his father Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan, popularly known by his title, Safdarjung, this is the last significant Mughal building after the time of Aurangzeb. The saddest thing about this tomb is that allegedly, the marble cladding on the central dome used material cannibalized and vandalized from the tomb of Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana, the famous poet, scholar, philosopher and adopted son and General of Akbar. That too to commemorate a man who bribed Nadir Shah to become the Nawab of Awadh and deserted his master and indulged in petty intrigues. Ironic!
