Summary[edit]
DescriptionSacrificial column, inscription, 640-600, AM Naxos, MN 8, 111862.jpg |
English: Hole for inserting the victims (offerings) - on top of the column. Not the abacus, ie the head of the column! Inscription from right to left, even in a spiral, the dedication to Apollo: Apollo Alexitidés ("turning away"). The object dates from the late 7th century BC, is 105 cm tall, was found in 1954 in Gyroulas near Sangri on Naxos. (Linked to the proto-Ionic capitals or not, when it's actually something else?) Archaeological Museum on Naxos, MN 8. (In the local museum of Demetrion at Gyroulas exhibit only copy.) |
