Description Canal Street, New Orleans, 1860s. Looking lakewards from the Touro Building on the French Quarter side of the (current numbering) 700 block, with the intersection of Carondelet seen at center left. 3 horse trams seen lined up at the neutral ground. It looks like there has been a light dusting of snow (mostly already melted away), rare in the city, and possibly the occasion for taking the photograph. (Mention of snow is likely to have been mentioned in the local papers; research on that may allow more precise dating of the image.)
