From the SCAD website: The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Trustees Theater announces the 2011-12 season of the SCAD Cinema Circle, "A Year of Great Performances." The series continues its tradition of popular and time-tested films with pre- and post-show discussions and membership packages. The mission of the SCAD Cinema Circle is to provide film lovers and students with an enriched viewing experience of first-class, award-winning and cutting-edge films from around the world. All screenings are presented at Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St. and are hosted by SCAD's cinema studies department. The SCAD Cinema Circle features pre-show discussions that highlight the cinematic, cultural and historic importance of each film. At the conclusion of the screening, a post-show discussion, led by SCAD's cinema studies and film and television professors, provides an in-depth review of the film and the context in which it was produced. The 2011-12 series presents four themes: Suspense and Intrigue, Transformative Performances, Foreign Crime Classics, and 'The Savannah Connection'." For the 1962 movie "Cape Fear" (shown on the marquee above) starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, the Savannah Connection is that many of the movie's outdoor scenes were filmed on location in Savannah. Other outdoor scenes used in the file were shot in Stockton (CA), and on the Universal Studios back lot at Universal City (CA). The indoor scenes were done at Universal Studios Soundstage at Universal City. Mitchum reportedly had a real-life aversion to Savannah, where as a teenager, he had been charged with vagrancy and put on a chain gang. This resulted in a number of the outdoor scenes being shot at Ladd's Marina in Stockton, California, including the culminating conflict on the houseboat at the end of the movie.
