Summary[edit]

Description
English: Weighing a prototype kilogram with a precision Ruprecht balance, around 1900. The balance is manipulated from a distance by the man on the right using long extension controls, to avoid his body temperature upsetting the delicate thermal equilibrium of the balance, causing convection currents which would bias the measurement. The operator looks through a telescope to read the balance's scale. The prototype kilogram, removed from its storage bell jar on the stool at right, is being compared to the set of working standard kilogram weights in the case on the stool at left, being examined by the other two men.
Deutsch: "Die Ruprechtsche Wage. Abwägen eines Normal-Kilogramms aus der Entfernung."

Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years.
