Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Runway to the rainbow Welsh black cattle munch their winter fodder where bombers of the WW2 RAF Coastal Command once took off to take part in 'The Battle of the Atlantic', protecting Britain's vital maritime trade routes.

The airfield came into operational use in 1943 and was the base, along with nearby Brawdy, for squadrons of Halifax, Flying Fortress and Liberator planes. When the airfield was sold off in the 1990s it was bought by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Welsh Development Agency for the purpose of restoring it as a natural habitat. Winter grazing is part of this scheme.

The rainbow appeared following a heavy shower of hail on a cold November afternoon.
