[edit]
Description
English: Rufford Old Hall, Lancashire, 16th c. (?) stained glass window showing arms of the Stanley family, Earls of Derby. Shield in shape of Tudor arch, so late 15th c. at earliest. Circumscribed by the Garter, so relates to a Knight of the Garter. The arms quarter the arms of King of Mann, so no earlier than Sir John Stanley(c. 1350–1414), KG, of Lathom, near Ormskirk in Lancashire, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and first titular King of Mann, great-grandfather of Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby, KG (1435-1504). Sir Robert Hesketh (d.1620) of Rufford married Marie Stanley, a daughter of Sir George Stanley "of the Cross" (of Cross Hall, Lathom, commonly called the Black Knight; Marshal of Ireland and Captain of the Isle of Man). (Procter, The Manor of Rufford, 1907[1]), Sir George Stanley was a son of Sir James Stanley (c.1487-after 1545) of Cross, a son of George Stanley, 9th Baron Strange of Knockin and Lady Joan Le Strange, 10th Baroness of Knockin
